In 2008, the greatest teen movie about vampires was ever released (Buffy the Vampire Slayer is quaking in her grave as I say this)..and alongside it came the greatest set of soundtracks ever released.
You're FEEDING me! Practical Magic last week, now this! ✨️ I'm a TwiHard. I'll own it. I still sleep in my grey Edward & Bella tshirt. When I'm sick, I watch the movies - I'm weird. New Moon soundtrack was my favorite, I had 2 CDs because I'd thought I'd lost first. I remember being let down that one of the songs from movie was left off soundtrack! The scean where Jacob and Bella working in shed and this little ditty of a tune starts, I forgot the name and artist but I ended up finding them later. Anyway thanks you girly! This fills me
Ohhhh this is what my Halloween dreams are made of. You’re cooking somethin’ special with this episode. Like this idea as a Halloween vibe episode is better than what I could’ve imagined in my wildest dreams🙏
A tangentially related Twilight anecdote I have is that when I was in high school, there were these two twin boys who looked verrrrrrry much like Robert Pattinson but as Edward specifically… but like also in a “we have Edward at home” kinda way…. Anyway the one who looked the most like him was named Zack so my friends and I referred to him as “Zackward.” Never spoke to him in my life. Hope he’s doing good….
ANYWAYS thanks for this - Twilight is SUCHHHH a fun moment from girlhood to look back on. Like what a phenomenon! I don’t think there will ever be a moment in time just like it. And the soundtracks, well… cigarette duck. You nailed it as usual!
Recently at the bar there was a film crew that took over and they were having their wrap party at this fawking dive bar we were at, and one of them looked EXACTLY like Harry Styles and we called him “Low Budget Harry Styles” all night and I think he heard us and got sad about it but we were too drunk to gaf……they walk amongst us………….
LMFAOOOOO well…. you know what i’m low budget harry he does well in his personal exploits. tbh i know zackward lowkey knew everyone was talking about him and he would like be all too cool for it but i bet he looks back on it with a chuckle. or maybe those were his glory days. i would love to see him now but alas!
Okay, but did you know that Jungkook is a noted Twihard??
For kpop reasons too complicated to get into (j/k it’s capitalism), each BTS member designed a photoshoot concept. Jungkook wanted to be a vampire. He’s glittery. He is asked why he is glittery. And he’s like… umm vampires sparkle during the day, duh…
(And then I set an alarm for midnight Korea time and paid $80 for a book of nothing but glittery Jungkook pictures)
I’m sobbing at him taking the Twilight Vampire lore as like the bible of vampire lore. He’s like duhhhhh vampires sparkle didn’t you know that……….RGOIAEJGAEIGERIOAI
I worked at a bookstore when these books were coming out, so I got to be there for the midnight release parties. I loved the books so much and I pestered my sister incessantly until she read them just to get me off her back….and of course she became an instant fan!!
I’m so glad the creepy baby got a shout out!
The anecdote about the mushroom stick just about did me in 😂😂😂 I can’t until you excavate your shed and take us on a retrospective.
this episode was so amazing Madeline, especially when you mentioned how freeing it feels to look back on and enjoy the books, movies, and other media you consumed when you were a teenage girl. as everyone knows, no one can love something more than a teenage girl can, AND THAT'S ON PERIOD. Bellissimo! brava!
Just like your Hunger Games soundtrack episode, this was such a fun episode to listen to and such a trip down memory lane - Twilight and the Hunger Games, the books and the movies and the soundtracks, were so formative to my middle school years, and so it’s like I know them so well, but it’s also been like over a decade since I’ve touched any of them… like a childhood friend you’ve fallen out of contact with. I love how the theme of nostalgia and embracing all your past selves with tenderness rather than cringe is such a through line in all the content you make for the Lizard Review. ❤️
Also, a TLR retrospective on the Twilight movies would be suchhhhh a good episode if you do decide to revisit them. I’d be seated! I only rewatched the first movie a couple years ago with a friend and I was shocked by how much I’d forgotten, and also how much I felt like it was such a bizarre movie lol.
I loved these books so much!!! But your reaction to breaking dawn sent me. It’s so valid. Eclipse is actually my favorite. The movies? I wasn’t as connected to when they came out but I’d love to rewatch sometime soon. Great episode! Thanks for this nostalgia trip 🫶🏻
can confirm we are still using music for fanfic inspo lmao.
✨✨✨i highhhhhly recommend that twilight fans read Carry On - the Simon Snow trilogy by Rainbow Rowell. it’s also a very fanfic style series in the way that every single thing makes you kick your feet and giggle or sob your eyes out, but it’s incredible well written and has a happy ending. (it’s also inspired by fanfic of a fictional series that was written by a character in one of her other novels, but that is way too meta to get into here lol)
it’s another modern fantasy romance with a ton of layers and world building. one of the main characters is a gay bitchy vampire (he’s also a mage) who’s even more magnetic and book-boyfriend than edward. it’s the best romance story i’ve ever read, but also has a ton of other plot stuff going on and deals with trauma and grief and family and friendship. it’s beautiful, and heartbreaking, hopeful and hilarious (and queer) (also the characters are 18+ to start but the story isn’t super “spicy”). it’s pays tribute and makes references to stories like harry potter and twilight, and the vampire character Baz is even inspired by edward in a multiple ways (including being a “vegetarian” and having a “say it, say it out loud moment” lol). ✨✨✨
the author also has playlists for each book and character that are reminiscent of the twilight soundtrack energy to me, but with totally different songs like mitski and sufjan stevens and depeche mode etc.
anyway, this series was the first thing that immediately plunged me back into fanfic and fandom culture since i was a teen on tumblr with things like twilight. so again, i cannot recommend it enough to y’all ‼️
Related: Ashley Winstead's Midnight Is the Darkest Hour is a must-read for the Twilight girls. It's a novel of Twilight appreciation. 🌙 Can't recommend it enough.

"All I Belive In" (Alternate Mix) by Magic Numbers was song they left of soundtrack! That was gonna bug me
Twilight and New Moon were recently pressed on vinyl! They’re pretty variants too.
