One of pop culture's most important nights has a long and storied history, that I pick apart year by year, performance by performance, and fight by fight.
This was brilliant! As someone who grew up with strict parents who sheltered me from everything pop culture, I sadly missed out on a lot of this fun. The first controversy I remember being present for was the iconic “Miley what’s good?!” And I’m not afraid to say it shook me to my core and I’ll never be the same. It’s surprising to admit, because we already have enough of this in politics, but i really hope the vmas bring mess back this year! 🤣
Lmaooo this was even better than I thought it would be 😂. And in summation, “what a valiant roar, what a bland goodbye” (for now). I really hope the girlies can help revive the culture at least a little bit this year. Thanks for the yummy treat!

OMG!! Standing ovation!! I laughed so many times during this; literally insane amount of research and the delivery Madeline! Just an incredible journey down memory lane and what a fun post! We watched MTV all the time; a lot of music videos you mentioned are etched into my brain.

VMAs was always so iconic to the culture and while it will always have an inherent janky quality to it, i think last year and this year are trending in the right direction. I’m seated, firmly.
