As soon as you went into that 1989 voice memo quote I thought I was losing my mind because I too memorized it but haven’t thought about it in years. Gagged! Also I like this mic better 👍🏻

My favorite lizard talking about how the littlest thing can bring back a rush of memories and emotions that surround a person or event from your past hit me hard. That deep sadness of knowing someone so well at one point in your life, and then realizing, again, that all that is gone. As someone who is still trying to move on from deep friendships of my past (like 15 years ago), I can relate so much to what you are saying here. It's nice to know I'm not alone in my suffering, haha, and sometimes a good cry is the only way to make it better.

MAANNN you really reawakened something in me with the whole Breakaway thing oh no help me jesus fuck. I resent that big bad bitch also. I love her. I've always been an emotional person. When I was 7 i would run a bath, turn on the song Puff the Magic Dragon and sit in the bath to cry. That's another painful one.

I’ve never related to anyone more in my life. So many of my friends never understood why I love sad music. I’m a sentimental bitch ok??

Letter to my 13 year old self….

Also to your point, I think it’s deeply human to “still be at the restaraunt” and hold onto memories for things long forgotten by many.

It’s painful but it grounds me.

As a fellow chronic cryer I relate to this so hard. My most unhinged song that makes me almost always cry is Shake It Off.. yes, it’s diabolical and I don’t fully understand WTF is wrong with me but I think it’s because it’s a song I never actively seek out but when it comes on it’s always in a time where I’ve been so insanely stressed and burnt out and I don’t realize til fucking Shake It Off starts playing and I’m like omg I really needed to shake it off right now Taylor thank you 😭😂 and then I usually start laughing at the fact that I’m crying to Shake It Off and it’s just a great release all around 💁🏻‍♀️

the first time it happened I was like uhh? That was weird?? But now I just kinda accept that it’s the spirit of Taylor coming to me in a time of need.

OMG I cry to Shake It Off sometimes too. It's the exact same type of feeling and crying that I experience with Karma and Born This Way. Like a grateful, I'm gonna be okay, life doesn't have to be so serious, kinda cry

Yeah, so I'm laying on the floor now... Never related to someone so hard in my life. I'm gonna have to listen to that Front Bottoms song.

Also, Emily may be trying not to be a Florence shooter, but I have been a Florence shooter since 2009 and you should really check out Girls Against God. That song's chorus puts me on the floor like a punch to the gut. But then I'm a girl whose never gotten over or let go of anything in her life.

Hi Madeline, you relay things so beautifully! Your words on things changing and transitioning into a new phase of life really comforted me. I felt a little better about where I am in life knowing that one of my favorite creators is thinking about the same stuff too. This is an odd ask, idk if you will consider it but the song has puzzled me for years. I saw that Samson by Regina Spektor is on the playlist, would you ever consider making a lyric analysis to that song? I would love to hear you parse through it.

yes absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m always looking for songs by other artists aside from Taylor to lyrically analyze so I’ll put that on my list for the next month. Thank you!!!
