Lizard!! Me and my friends have been Maude fans for years & are excited she’s having a pop moment. I was disappointed with the “I am the sun” stuff too LMAO and am sooo happy w/ the trajectory she went with Sugar Water. If you’re interested in her older stuff- I highly recommend her first EP “starsick”! Lovesick is one of my favvv songs by her. Also she’s super fun performer to see live!

seconded!! so much of her early stuff is SO GOOD—the starsick and strangers forever eps are my favs because that's when i found her—but i'm happy to say i love this new album too <3

Wait I thought Sabrina was referring to the Greek goddess of motherhood and marriage on Juno. I didn't think it was referring to the movie. I was kinda underwhelmed by this album too but maybe I'll like it more with a couple re-listens...

Oh this was delicious. I totally felt the same about Chappell. I hate that this is the environment, but i really think this may not be the path for her. Sad but true. Watching Shawn get cooked was delightful. Who knew. People are loving JUNO and i don’t really get it. I don’t hate it, it’s fun, but the Stanning is blowing my mind. Sabrina said she wrote Don’t Smile is about her “friend” who was going through an awful breakup that apparently was very sad.…hmmmm. Wonder who…interestingfinteresting

left to go listen to Sugar Water halfway through this episode and unfortunately headphones aren’t enough i need this album injected DIRECTLY into my bloodstream. this is ridiculously good?? it’s like Chappell, Charli, Remi Wolf, and Lorde flavoured candy all pinging around in my brain, but the energy, vibrancy, and individuality reminds me of Juno by Remi Wolf in particular

as for Short n’ Sweet, super excited to spend more time with this album!! i think Please Please Please is still my fave, but Good Graces gaggeddd me on first listen. it’s unfortunate that i have to turn my brain off to listen to Juno but it’s such a bop that i’m willing to make that sacrifice 💔

p.s. saw the news about FLO’s debut coming up and thought of the lizard, good reminder that i need to go check them out expeditiouslyyy

I agree with everything you said about Chappell and it makes me so sad to think she might not stick around in the industry. It would be amazing if she was able to help usher in change but I don't see ANY future where fans are acting sane around their favs. It just won't happen imo. You have to be okay with the craziness or get out, I fear. So sad for her and us

Also your point about how disgusted she looked and sounded while referring to her fans wanting to hug her made me cackle. Her face was exactly what mine looks like when I smell goat cheese

I’m sad to say I didn’t LOVE Sabrina’s album. Maybe it’s the early aughts Pop&B stylings that I’m not really a fan of but I wasn’t wowed by it sonically. I think the lyrics and vocals carry the album more than some would like to admit, but that’s just my perception. The chorus melodies and bridges didn’t impress me. My standouts aside from Espresso and pleaseX3 are probably taste and Juno, but that’s my impression so far from a second listen. If I look at the track last after two listens, not many of the tracks besides the singles stand out to me. Slim pickins is cute but I prefer her live version. She changes the key on “they are” in the studio version that I don’t love lol overall I was underwhelmed but maybe it’ll grow on me more

I feel like Chappel might not be ready to deal with how crazy fame is, and I don't think she can really negociate her relationship with her fans because people will do what they do. She could be that artist that peaces out rather soon in order to live a chill life.

Also… 😏 I noticed you started saying “and this is the lizard review” at the end of episodes again. Not sure if my comment had anything to do with that 😅 lol buuut nonetheless, peace has been restored in the terrarium. Thanks lizard queen 🙏🏼 🙇🏻‍♀️ 🫶🏼

so I’ve been thinking about this a lot in terms of the song juno…what is another example of a iconic pregnant person she could have referenced in the song in one word that we would pick up on as an audience as easily? I’ve sincerely been tossing this around in my head since the first day this episode came out…and I can’t think of one…while I understand what you are saying, I sincerely can’t think of another character that is just a name iconic enough to evoke the same message…do you have any top of head examples? not trying to be a dick, but i cannot think of any :/

Rosemary from Rosemary’s baby. I’M KIDDINGGG LMFAOOOOOOOOOO in reality idk if there really are any other pregnant characters she could have invoked, but the entire basis of the song being “I want you to make me xxx” could very easily just be “i want you to make me pregnant” but said in a better way. Really the song is foolishness from top to bottom to me but again I don’t long to be pregnant and in fact think it would be a nightmare….I’m not the best person to receive it let’s say LMFAO!!!

that’s hilarious because i had the same thought!!! the only two I could think of was rosemary’s baby and jaimie lynn spears (which let’s be honest, is like 1 million times more problematic lol). As another human who is terrified of having a fleshy monkey alien (aka a baby) I feel you deep on this one lol!…BUT that beat goes hard and I CANNOT STOP lol

Well, it was bound to happen eventually that I’d disagree with a lizard review lol 😅. I thought Good Graces and Sharpest Tool were a little clunky and just meh but then she pulled me back in with Coincidence and Bed Chem. And I think the “got em” factor of Dumb & Poetic was there, but not in the sense of “oh she got HIS ass” but more so that “she got THEIR asses” cause we allllllll know this kind of guy she’s singing about, she hit the nail on the head of this particular genre of fuck boy lol. I wonder if she was going for more relatable girly with that one, cause I could totally see it becoming a tiktok trend. And the last few tracks were just cute little bops although, yeah.. the Juno of it all def made me a little 🥴… uncomfy. 😬 But, ending it with Don’t Smile was clever and made it a perfectly bookended album.
