You know it probably is shitty in the Black Dog for Matty since the bar has become a Swiftie haven. Ain't no way he is going back there any time soon.

A man calling Taylor creepy for watching her ex’s location even tho it’s the most relatable ever proves the point of the song: that men like matty and fantano don’t care enough about the women they date to remember to turn their location off.

Matty actually covered the best of me by the starting line multiple times in April before they went public too so it was definitely their song and he was performing it for her. I also think the line “you said I needed a brave man then proceeded to play him until I believed it too” provides a lot of insight into their dynamic. Whether or not Matty genuinely believed the promises he was telling Taylor when he lovebombed her, he had the additional motivation to make those promises to convince her to leave Joe. He had to portray himself as being able to give her the things Joe couldn’t which included marriage. Even if he thought he could follow through it was still all in service of convincing her to leave Joe. I think it was very easy for him to talk a big game while she was in a relationship and he was being kept at arms length but when she ultimately left Joe and gave him the opportunity to actually follow through with all the shit he said he couldn’t do it. I think we get a much clearer picture of the lovebombing with the understanding that Matty was saying whatever he thought Taylor needed to her (which he may have thought was true when he said it) in order to get her to dump Joe.

I'm addicted to these lyrical analyses 🙌🙌🙌 it's only growing my high appreciation for these songs, thank you Lizard!!

This song was the only one I cracked on, the part when she is so heartbroken and wants to call the priest stabbed me like a knife to the heart. Poor thing was wrecked after this relationship but I respect the honesty so much, as if anyone else would have the balls to be this vulnerable for 31 songs straight!

I think it's so interesting that she dated Joe Jonas and Matty Healy very briefly- they were/are both famous pop music stars, and apparently hurt her deeply. I would've never made the connection before this review so thank you Madeline!!! Also, Last Kiss and The Black Dog are 2 of my favorite TS songs ever, lol! Looking forward to seeing the EOAS live!
