The comparison between yours and Zach’s reactions πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚ I love hearing your take on these lyrics πŸ™ŒπŸ» the skinny line really stabbed me as well 😭❀️

You know - this album really did not click for me on first listen and I haven't gone back yet. But this made me feel a little more open-minded about taking another stab at it, so thank you! I really appreciate her place in the pop sphere and I like her writing. It's just when she gets into her mumbling bag where I get lost and bored. The Popheads subreddit was sucking their own dicks about how this record was the next Melodrama so color me surprised when I hit play... this is why we shouldn't go on the internet...

Really loved your thoughts on SKINNY - thank you for that! I am interested to see where this shakes up around award season and definitely look forward to Billie working with another producer someday (inshallah).

love this episode!! i’ve been a billie stan since 2017, i had just turned 18 and i think it was a right place, right time kinda thing. not all of her songs click for me, but the ones that do hit hard. re: wildflower, i THINK shes talking about devon lee carlson and jesse rutherford from the neighbourhood. the valentine’s day line references one of his songs, and in general the way she talks about her friend and what happened in the song makes sense for it to be about that situation imo

There’s something about Billie that brings out old pop culture conversations in people. She really has been painted to be in opposition to all the other pop girlies in a similar way to Avril in the 2000s. She’s addressed how people use her as a guide post for what all other pop girls should be on the last record but it hasn’t changed how people talk about her. I’ve been trying to find the words and everything you said at the beginning was spot on. And I loved your thoughts on skinny. I immediately connected to that song and I’m glad I wasn’t the only one getting so emotional

I totally agree with what you said at the end about getting her in the studio with other producers and I think that’s what would keep her on this upward trajectory in her career.

I probably wouldn’t have gone out of my way to listen to this record if it wasn’t for the Lizard Review tbh, just so I could have context. And although I’m happy I did and I really enjoyed the first half, as a casual listener I’d be much more interested and compelled to listen if I knew she was branching out and working with new people, and I’m sure there’s a lot of other people who feel the same (wether they realize it or not).

Oh exactlyyyy yea. I think she could do some really different interesting stuff….if only she would branch out a bit….

I’m so proud of her with all she’s been through

With that whole queerbaiting BS in 2021 when she was really just trying to explore her sexuality and it probably just pushed her away from it

I went through something similar that didn’t let me come to terms with my queerness until a few years ago

I’m so proud she’s found herself……

She said in a songwriter round table that she finds it difficult to be vulnerable in het writing if she is writing for herself. Being given a subject like Barbie allowed her to write about feelings from a different perspective than her own, and it was only when she heard it back when it was finishers she realised she actually wrote about herself. That was very telling to me when I heard that, I made a mental note of it and I feel like this is what I al feeling upon first listens of this album. I think she has the talent and ability and a lot to say about untouched topics. I hope she gets to feel safe enough through the years to be able to lean in a bit more.

I see Billie and Finneas more as products of LA. Both are vegans I think; her tours I think are "green"; cool artistic parents super supportive and encouraging their creativity. And the two Grammys wins which sort of says it all about LA fully embracing (and both deserved). I'm not a fan or her music but I was glad to hear your opinions. I like to be informed! Thanks Madeline.

I feel like the lyric about the father not sympathising in BLUE is about like knowing someone’s trauma, why they are the way they are, but that sometimes that’s not enough because you know they won’t change and what’s been done to them is now hurting you
