The solid couple minutes when you were just reciting different lyrics that were CSOSM coded literally felt I was listening to someone casting a spell or a curse omfg.
Her use of stars throughout her discography really scares me with all the ways it might connect!
In rep, "Starry eyes sparking up my darkest night"
There's then all the instances of starry eyes you mentioned, until she's left down bad and there's no stars (because she's no longer beamed up into space?), and she's left contemplating if it's a prophecy...
"But I howl like a wolf at the moon
But I looked to the sky and said, 'Please'"
(also no stars mentioned in lover at all...?)
would love to hear thoughts on the overall theme of fate across all Taylor's work!
queen have you thought of doing a lyrical analysis of the prophecy ?? also if it helps to make the prophecy click, watch a lorelai gilmore edit with the prophecy over it. made it click for me instantly !!
“You said some things that I can’t unabsorb” “you turned me into an idea of sorts” “you hung me on your wall and stabbed me with your push pins” “YOU SAID NORMAL GIRLS WERE BORING BUT YOU WERE GONE BY THE MORNING” all lines that actually pierced me right through the heart the first time I heard them! And they’re all connected 😭
burning the field of dreams Vs in ivy "it's a fire, it's a goddamn blaze in the dark and you started it" ... different contexts in both songs but there's so many instances of him disrupting her life and completely tearing her world apart and setting it on fire. In ivy I think it's framed as the husband coming to burn it down, but also there's Matty setting a fire in her she can't ignore (your touch brought forth an incandescent glow // I felt a glow like this never before and ever since)
I think in many ways ivy is the field of dreams (clover blooms in the fields etc., I can't stop you putting roots in my dreamland) and it's so devastating hearing in loml he was the one who burned it. You're absolutely right that everything is 10 x more painful and revealing hearing COSOSOM and her still asking if she will always wonder. Another lizard review ep putting me on the ledge and I say thank you Madeline
cowboy like me starts in the middle of a sentence about a tennis court that's covered up in some tent like thing. why is the tent covered? the game is hidden!? obfuscation!!
In tennis, love is used to describe a score of zero points. "i'm never gonna love again" -- i'm never going to play this zero sum game again?
or the zero sum game was hidden/ obfuscated, and meanwhile "and you asked me to dance but I said, 'dancing is a dangerous game'" --> "dancing phantoms on the terrace are they second-hand embarrassed"
"can we watch our phantoms like watching wild horses" (... all roads lead back to CoSoSoM )
.... "forever is the sweetest con" ...(but "a con man sells a fool a get love quick scheme")
I loved this analysis!! I loved hearing you just talk and connect things, it really helps me appreciate songs more. When TTPD came out I actually designed a poster and included lyrics from COSOSOM for you!! I was actually watching your analysis while creating it. My ig is @adrian.ctrl if you wanna see it :)
I don't know if I'm biased bc I'd never heard Downtown Lights, but when I heard the song for the first time, I figured the Blue Nile she's drowning in was Joe (cascade ocean wave blues hellooooooo?) to show just how much that small act was saving her like a life jacket. Then I learned that's the band lol. BUT I still believe it's supposed to also represent Joe bc she's crazy like that

LOVED this one!
It's the Willow incantations decided live on TLR
Fr and I was reciting along, slamming my palm on the table, and saying "EX ACT LY!" between lines
This was the best Lizard Review to date. Period and congratulations.
I maybe inclined to agree. There's been really good one's , this is def top of list!!!
GAG GAG GAG GAG GAG GAG GAG
I am Barking so hard today. BARK BARK BARK BARK
Loved this episode!! I am curious if you think there is any connection between:
I thought I was better safe than starry eyed
Youre a cowboy like me eyes full of stars
Do I really have to chart the constellations in his eyes?

Um…is Willow about Matty?

i was rattling the bars of my cage since the question speech but everyone told me I was nuts if I talked about the existence of him

LITERALLLYYYY the Ivy x LOML implications are actually kinda fucking scary if you think too hard on it….
they drive me insane!!!!
"In a field in my same old town
that somehow seems so hollow now"
🤯
Hahaha… the bone collecting archeologist returns!! 🦴
But if he’s a ghost then I can be a phantom, holding him for ransom
